Bismillah…

Have you ever heard about malnutrition in Indonesia?

Indonesia is becoming an economic powerhouse in the region and the world. In contrast, the silent crisis of malnutrition in Indonesia carries on, corroding and damaging human hardware and software and acting as a brake on economic growth that could be as extraordinary as China’s.

Consider the first Global Nutrition Report, just launched on February 9. Using data from WHO and UNICEF provided by the Indonesian government the report found the following:

#Worldwide, malnutrition is implicated in 45 percent of the deaths of children under the age of 5, 37 percent of Indonesians under 5 are stunted, more than 5 percent are wasted (low weight for height), and 12 percent are overweight.

#The trends are not encouraging: stunting rates have remained unchanged for the last six years.

#Indonesia is not on course to meet the 2025 targets for any of the four UN health goals: under 5-stunting, wasting, overweight and women’s anemia.

#Indonesia is one of only 17 countries (out of 117) with serious public-health problems concerned with under-5 stunting, wasting and overweight. Fewer than half of children under 5 are growing healthily.

Even if income growth was broad-based, malnutrition is determined by much more than money.
Families have to be able to buy healthy food at affordable prices. Mothers need the time and support to breastfeed children early and exclusively for the first six months of their life.

Water and sanitation services need to be clean enough that they do not make children sick all the time, so they can absorb the nutrients they do ingest.

The report found that nutrition was rarely mentioned in any of Indonesia’s key economic-policy documents. This is a real missed opportunity (The Jakarta Post).

Stunted growth in children is no longer simply an effect of their parents’ poor economic conditions but also due to the failure to provide exclusive breast-feeding during early development, a baby and child food (IYCF) and breast-feeding motivator claims. Economic factors could no longer be made the scapegoat for stunted growth in children. Poor nutrition during the development stage was also a factor.

“Breastfeeding is a natural safety net against the worst effects of poverty” –James P. Grant, former and Executive Director of UNICEF.

In Fact :

Ketika bayi menginjak usia satu tahun, anggaran melonjak dua kali lipatnya.

What a pity!

Tidak heran jika kita menemukan para bayi menderita diabetes pada tahun-tahun pertama mereka hidup.

Yuk kembali ke fitrah, menyusui anak-anak hingga berusia 2 tahun.

Breastfeeding is a natural safety-net for the first few months in order to give the child a fairer start to life.

So, Let’s Fight Global Hunger and Improve Nutrition with Nutrition Education!

SDGs no 2 : End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture – with targets to ensure acces to nutritious food and end malnutrition.

We have a task with providing understanding to the people on the factors that could hamper a child’s growth, malnutrition and on what to do to effectively to take care of children.

Nutrition education for a new family, community and support to get some information and facilities are needed to improve nutrition itself. And this become our concern now…
